Organic Farming

With the recent focus on organic farming, it has most people beginning to question the foods that they are putting into their bodies.  Is the food that you buy at the store loaded with preservatives?  Is it loaded with chemicals and pesticides?  Has it had any kind of genetic alterations at all?  How do you know?  Well, you really don’t.  But, if these issues concern you, or you just want to check out some organic foods, here are some theories about how organic foods are better for you:

Taste
Most people who try organic foods after they have eaten processed foods for so long claim that organically grown foods have an all over better taste than processed foods.  Although there have been no scientific studies into this theory, it is something easy that you can try out for yourself.

No Chemicals
While most processed foods are loaded with chemicals, like pesticides, preservatives, and others, organic foods are not.  Under the USDA guidelines, organic farming cannot include any kinds of chemical treatments whatsoever, so you will know that there will not be any kinds of chemicals on the organic foods that you purchase.  Most of the foods that are processed and out there in supermarkets have had some kind of chemicals on them, either from the very beginning or from when it was packaged.  So, if any of the studies bother you about the effects on people’s health due to pesticides or chemicals preservatives, organic foods might be the way for you to go.

No Alterations
Lately, there have been many studies into how science can alter foods by genetic engineering to help people live healthier lives.  But, is altering a food’s genetic code really a good thing?  There have been experiments into placing genes and bacteria that will help to fight everything from the common cold to cancer and everything in between, but how do we really know that this alteration will not affect the food’s nutritional value?  Well, so far, there have not been too many studies into this theory either.

Since there have not been too many studies into organic farming and its benefits yet, you really just have to weight both sides and make your own decisions.  But, if organic foods have been good enough to keep humans alive for millions and millions of years, shouldn’t it be good enough now?
