Organic Gardening For Slugs

Setting up and organic garden at your home can be a lot of fun, but it can also be a lot of work.  All of your hard work pays off in the end, and you do not even remember all the problems that you had to fight to get there. By problems, I mean pests.  Bugs, insects, bacteria, fungi… the basic “nasties” that are out there.  Any or all can strike your organic garden at any time and with devastating results if you are not watchful.  So, what are some of the pests that you might find in your garden?  Here are just a few:

Organic gardening for Bugs
The main problem that you will find in any garden is bugs.  Insects of all shapes, sizes, and colors will see those fine crops that you have going and jump on the chance to eat them up.  So, this is where you will need to weight your options about pesticides, and decide if you really want to use them or not.  In truly organic gardens, there should be no pesticides or chemicals used at all.  Therefore, you might decide not to use them at all.  So, if you go chemical-free, you might want to get a book or two on organic gardening and what you can use to get rid of certain types of bugs that you might be having a problem with.

Organic Gardening for Slugs
Everyone knows that slugs are just gross.  Not only do they look like long, squishy leaves, but also they leave that wonderful slime trail everywhere they go.  So, how do you keep them out of your garden?  Of course, there are chemicals that will repel them, but if you want to have an organic garden, this isn’t the way to go.  There are several things that you can try to keep them out of your garden that will work without chemicals, like sand.  Slugs do not like sand and will not cross it, so you can put a thin layer around your garden to keep them out.  Just remember that like all pests, organic gardening for slugs is an all you can eat event that they won’t want to miss.Organic Gardening for Fungus and Other Pests
For ideas on fighting other pests, you can check on the Internet for free information, or head down to your local library for books.  Any local bookstore will also carry books on organic gardening and have tips for keeping any and all pests out of and away from your garden.

Just remember that no matter what you decide to use, or not use, on your organic garden pests can and will strike.  So, if you aren’t organic gardening for slugs, bugs, and fungus, you might want to look into what you need to do to keep them out of your garden!
