Depending on the size of your garden, you will want to start a compost heap.  Yes, they smell, but they also make the best natural fertilizer that you can find to put on your garden, without the chemicals that are found in the store-bought ones.  A smaller compost heap will do fine for smaller gardens, and you can move the size up with the size of your garden.  You can put all kinds of organic materials in your compost heap, like grass clippings.

Once you have cleared the space for your garden, place a layer of compost or fertilizer over the area and then you are ready to plant your seeds.  Make sure to follow the directions on the packages as to the space between each plant.  If you would like, you can also head down to the local nursery and buy plants that are already started, so you won’t have to worry about the seeds not growing or any other problems that can come up.

After you have your garden planted, make sure to keep it watered and fertilized with your compost or fertilizer so your plants will be sure to get the nutrients that they needed.  Once you begin to see small veggies coming out, make sure that you attend to them daily, just to make sure that they receive everything that they need to ensure that your veggies are as good as they can be.Now that you have the basics down for your garden, enjoy the “veggies” of your labor!  Share these organic home gardening “how to” tips with your family and friends so you can all enjoy fresh vegetables.
